Allie, who is adopted, raised her during morning meeting.

"Mrs. D, do you have any babies?"

No, not yet.

"You know, if you don't want a baby in your tummy you can just sign a lot of papers and get one. That's what my mom did and here I am!"

Serious as a Heart Attack

Amanda came in from recess clutching her chest.
"Mrs. D - I just had a heart attack."

How do you know?

"I can feel it."

What does it feel like?

"Well my heart... it stopped beating... and then it beat really fast... and then I felt things crawling around and eating my heart."

How are you feeling now?

"Fine. I think I just need a drink of water."

Weighing In

During a classroom discussion about pumpkins and Jack O'Lanterns, one student brought up the World's Biggest Pumpkin found at the local State Fair saying "I think it weighs like 1,000 pounds."

Another student quickly interjected - "That's not so big, my uncle weighs more than that. He's pretty fat."

Remembering Grandma

Each afternoon, students get a chance to offer up special intentions for those close to them. The theme of the day seemed to be "dead grandmothers." Here is a selection of favorites:

Isabelle: "I want us to remember my grandma, she died before I was in my mommy's tummy."
Matt: "I want to remember my dead grandma, I don't know when she died, but she's definitely dead."
Mikey: "I want to remember my grandma, she lives in Egypt, I hope she's not dead yet."

A Celebration of Fungi

After an in depth classroom discussion all of the special celebrations in October, Luke raised his hand:

"Mrs. D, I get all these special days, but what the heck is Fungus Day?"
